If you’re planning out your wedding day, you probably have spent hours thinking about the big day. You’ve thought about the location, the dress, and even what kind of food will be served. And while all those things are important (and fun), I want to focus on something that isn’t always given much attention: posing for photos with your significant other!
Use your surroundings to create a mood. Use natural light when possible, and adjust the lighting yourself by using reflectors or candles if you’re in a dark area or space. You can also use props to make the photo more interesting, like a chair in front of you for bridal portraits with your groom. For example, think about how two people sit on a couch—they’re usually facing each other with their legs up on either side of them (like penguins). Create that same feeling by putting one leg up on the couch and looking straight ahead at your partner so that he/she is reflected in your eyes.
Not everyone can be a model, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your wedding photos. While it might seem silly at first to make jokes and play around in front of the camera, you’ll be surprised at how much better it makes you feel!
When selecting your wedding day attire, keep in mind that it should be something you feel comfortable in. Your photographer will do their best to make sure you look great, but it’s up to you to choose an outfit that matches the rest of your bridal party and makes sense for the type of photos you’d like taken.
So try to pick something that doesn’t restrict movement, pinch or pull. It’s also important for bridesmaids’ dresses not to have any uncomfortable straps because everyone will be doing lots of arm movements during pictures—so go sleeveless if possible!
Next, try getting creative with some new poses. A good way to start is by pretending you are cutting your cake together. This will help you feel more relaxed and it will create an easy opportunity for both of you to look at the camera at the same time and smile.
You don’t need to be a professional model to take great photos in front of the camera. Just be yourself and have fun with it! Remember, this is your wedding day and the photos are forever, so make sure they’re perfect!
